WASHINGTON, DC May 02 — On a day when the BJP President Rajnath Singh was contesting his election from the city of Lucknow for the parliament of India, the American flag was flown over the U.S. Capitol in his honor.
“We are thankful to have the cooperation of friends of India in the U.S. Congress who today honored Mr. Rajnath Singh by flying the American flag on U.S. Capitol. This important symbol recognizes the leadership of Mr. Singh in building the BJP party from strength to strength”, the US India Political Action Committee (USINPAC) said in a statement.
The office of Congressman Eni F.H. Faleomavaega, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, had said in a press release that “Ranking Member Eni Faleomavaega of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs’ Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific, which has broad jurisdiction for U.S. foreign policy affecting the region, including India, has requested that a flag be flown over the U.S. Capitol in honor of Shri Rajnath Singh, president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).”
The certificate accompanying the flag read as follows:
“This is to certify that the accompanying flag was flown over the United States Capitol on April 30, 2014. At the request of the Honorable Eni F.H. Faleomavaega, Member of Congress, this flag was flown for Shri Rajnath Singh, president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), born in a farmer’s family, educated in a village, a brilliant student who completed his MSc Physics, entered politics in 1974, and together with Shri Narendra Modi and the love and affection of the people of Lucknow is taking forward the historic work of transforming India.
“I especially commend BJP Party President Rajnath Singh for encouraging people to vote in large numbers for a strong government,” Faleomavaega said. “India’s elections now underway are the most historic the world has seen, and Shri Rajnath Singh is to be commended for the important role he has played in calling for good governance, development and security.”
“In cooperation with Mr. Sanjay Puri of the US India Political Action Committee (USINPAC), it has been my privilege to host Shri Rajnath Singh in Washington, DC and to enter into the Congressional Record a statement recognizing him for his remarkable leadership.
