TRUMP AND FIRST LADY IN INDIA RE-SETS US-INDIA RELATIONS, USINPAC SAYS

Washington D.C.:

The visit of President Trump and FLOTUS to India re-sets US-India relations, USINPAC says.

PM Modi was elected in a record-breaking landslide, with over 600 million people voting in the largest election the world has ever known. Modi looms large – a once-in-a-lifetime leader – formidable and intent on bringing peace, prosperity and development across India.

Trump is formidable, too, with India and the US having locked horns over trade. But in Ahmedabad, the largest city in the state of Gujarat and Modi’s hometown, Trump touted the US-India relationship in front of massive crowds appreciative of the common interests the two nations share.

Already, Trump has announced a $3 billion defense deal on the heels of the US and India holding first-ever joint military exercises last fall appropriately named, “Tiger Triumph.” “Trump’s visit to India is also a triumph,” said Sanjay Puri, Chairman of USINPAC, “and we should continue to build on this moment going forward. The US-India partnership could define the 21st century and the possibility has begun again with the Trump-Modi visit that has been a long time in the making.”

The visit has come at a time when the relationship needs bolstering and rethinking. From trade to security to peace-building initiatives and green-card reforms, USINPAC is certain that the two nations can forge “a great deal” for both countries. The Indian American community has been and continues to be committed to these efforts. “We continue to call for India’s special trade status to be restored and will do our part to be on record in the US Congress regarding the issues that matter most to us,” Puri said.

“We applaud PM Modi, President Trump and the First Lady of the United States for meeting. India is not only important to Asia. India is important to the world, and this visit exemplifies how important the US-India partnership is when it comes to affecting change at home and abroad,” Puri concluded.
