USINPAC applauds President Obama’s decision to advance Foreign Visa Processing & Travel Promotion

USINPAC calls for the position of Tourism to be created in the Cabinet

January 19, Washington D.C.: The U.S. India Political Action Committee (USINPAC) applauds President Barack Obama’s decision to expedite visa and foreign visitor processing and travel promotion to the U.S. This decision aims at increasing economic growth while ensuring national security. The United States welcomes over 60 million visitors who spend over $134 Billion annually. USINPAC urges President Obama to create a tourism czar in the cabinet given its economic and national security importance.

Mr. Sanjay Puri, Chairman, USINPAC welcomed the decision stating, “President Obama’s decision is an important one since the U.S. share of global tourism has dropped from 17% in 2010 to 12%. Travelers from emerging economies like India are expected to grow by 50% by the year 2016. Our visa rules and regulations need to be fine tuned to welcome tourists while keeping national security in mind. Toursim is not just an economic opportunity but it is a tremendous people- to- people opportunity to build ties with nations. ”

President Obama has called upon the Task Force to develop the National Travel and Tourism Strategy. The Secretaries of Commerce and the Interior will serve as Co-Chairs of the Task Force and will work with the Tourism Policy Council to galvanize the National Travel and Tourism Strategy.
