Supports Sen. Feinstein’s demand to list Haqqani network as a foreign terrorist organization
September 26, 2011, Washington DC: U.S. India Political Action Committee (USINPAC) urges the Obama administration to strongly and urgently pursue the close ties between the Haqqani terrorist network and Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence Agency (ISI). USINPAC Chairman, Sanjay Puri, said, “We make this appeal following Admiral Mullen’s testimony last week that various high-profile attacks by the Haqqani network on U.S. troops have had direct support of the ISI.”
USINPAC has in the past pointed out the potential association of the ISI/Pakistan army with terrorist organizations operating out of Pakistan. The Indian government has also consistently reiterated the existence of such links within Pakistan.
Further reacting to the testimony, Mr. Puri said, “If Admiral Mullen concludes that after ten years of Pakistan being an ostensible ally against terrorism, certain terrorist activities still have the blessing of the ISI, it is incumbent upon the Administration to take urgent corrective measures. Most importantly, we must protect U.S. troops and citizens stationed in the region and at home. Pakistan has had a history of ignoring calls to end terrorist safe havens within its borders, and it is high time that we see concrete action from the Pakistani side.”
USINPAC further expresses support of Senator Dianne Feinstein’s demand to list the Haqqani network as a foreign terrorist organization.
