The time to act on LNG exports is NOW!

The ‘Domestic Prosperity and Global Freedom Act” which was introduced by Rep. Cory Gardner on March 06,2014 was another move aimed at expediting the export of U.S. liquefied natural gas to their global allies. Like with H.R. 2771, US India Political Action Committee (USINPAC) has been working with offices of multiple Congressman and Senators to seek sponsorship of Bill H.R.6 that will expedite LNG exports to India and mark a new era in energy trade between the two largest democracies in the world.
Currently, American companies may export LNG to countries with which they have an existing free trade agreement. However, to export to countries outside of these agreements, American companies must go through a rigorous application process from the U.S. Department of Energy that has been met with unnecessary delays.
The current framework is time-consuming and expensive. But the outdated rules are not just hurting their allies, they’re also hindering economic growth and job creation.
The aim of this bill is to create more jobs in America and Rep Gardner speaks specifically about Colorado and how the passing of this bill will help the allies of US across the globe and at the same time create a source of economic opportunity in Colorado.
The main aim of this bill is also to expedite exports to WTO countries as interference of DOE often leads to unnecessary delays. According to the Energy Department’s own website, only six applications for U.S. exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) have been approved over the past three years, while 24 applications are pending. This means Washington is doing as little as possible in an area in which they should ideally be doing the opposite.
As the second-largest producer of natural gas on the planet, Russia is the dominant provider of LNG to European countries. Europeans depend on natural gas to heat their homes and power their industries. Much of the LNG they use flows from Russia through pipelines that cross Ukraine.
I would like to quote Speaker John Boehner who says, “America not only has a right to develop and market its natural resources. In the face of rising danger, it has an obligation to do so.”

The LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) – Initiative is USINPAC’s project to decisively influence US policy on expediting LNG exports to India and thus help foster a long-term collaboration in LNG trade between the two countries.
